STRATFORD TORIES SET THEIR AGENDA WITH A MASSIVE PAY RISE... FOR THEMSELVES!
First item on the agenda of the first meeting of the new Stratford District Council is a Conservative proposal to award themselves a whopping 8.4% pay rise.
Liberal Democrats opposed this. First Lib Dems voted against any increase. After this was voted down by Conservatives, Cllr Peter Moorse (Lib Dem) moved an amendment to ensure that any increase was not more than council staff pay increases. The debate was promptly and deliberately shut down by Tory councillors and then every single one of the 29 Conservative councillors voted against the Lib Dem proposals to limit pay increases to that of staff levels. The vote was recorded and is on public record.
At a time when council budgets are being slashed, the Conservatives have prioritised giving themselves a pay rise. Liberal Democrats will campaign to make sure vital local services are not lost as a result.
