The Liberal Democrats have selected Beverley Nielsen as their candidate for metro mayor of the West Midlands.
Next year will see the election of a Mayor for the West Midlands combined authority. This authority and the mayor will have responsibility and power over vital funding and infrastructure decisions. Currently Warwickshire is only a constituent member, which means residents here don't get a vote but will be affected by the decisions. The local Lib Dems are pushing for Warwickshire to secure a deal with full voting rights as soon as possible, so that local people and businesses can have their say and benefit from vital investment.
Lib Dem candidate Beverley Nielsen, is a former director of CBI West Midlands and chief executive at the Heart of England Tourist Board, is Executive Director and Associate Professor at the Institute for Design and Economic Acceleration (IDEA), Birmingham City University. She also acts as ‘sector champion’ for GBSLEP in the ‘New Maker Economy’.
