Elizabeth Adams visited the new centre in Leamington Spa for residents of Coventry & Warwickshire to access services offered by Relate.
Relate offer a range of services to help with couple and family relationships, whether you're young or old, straight or gay, single or in a relationship.
Their services include Relationship Counselling for individuals and couples, Family Counselling, Mediation, Children and Young People's Counselling and Sex Therapy. They also provide friendly and informal workshops for people at important stages in their relationships. They also work to champion the importance of relationships in society and in the media. Relate work with government to ensure relationship support is kept at the heart of public policy. They carry out research to determine how our relationships are changing and make recommedations on how government policy should respond.
Elizabeth is especially supportive of the work they do with domestic abuse victims and hopes to raise awareness amongst residents of the services they provide.
Elizabeth said, "We are very fortunate to have another Relate centre to join those in Stratford and Coventry. We must continue to support vital services like these and after speaking with staff at the centre today, I am concerned to hear that council funding for the fantastic Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programmes of which Relate were providers, has been cut and the programmes had to be stopped. We must do all we can to ensure funding is made available for causes such as this, that save money in the long run due to cutting offending rates and helping to protect victims".
