Today, 184 Labour MPs abstained on the Tory Welfare Bill vote allowing them to push through more cuts to tax credits.
The Conservative Welfare Bill unfairly targets young people and low paid workers with children. Rather than getting people in work, the figures show that these new cuts to tax credits will be a disincentive to people looking for work as they won't be financially better off.
The Conservatives at the same time have prioritised tax cuts for people on higher wages and huge inheritance tax cuts for the very wealthy.
Labour are supposed to be the party that stands up for workers and the non-privileged but their silence on the Tory Welfare Bill just shows how irrelevant and out of touch they have become. We will see more and more than only the Lib Dems are fighting the Tories on the important issues.
